CROW’S NESTIn 1922, the first electric light signal, the “Crow’s Nest,” replaced the stop and go sign at Michigan and Washington. An officer sat in the booth of the tower and regulated traffic by ringing a bell to warn drivers the light would be changing on the four-sided traffic signal. The tower was replaced in 1926 with an automatic overhead traffic signal. "Crow's Nest" Traffic control device at Michigan and Washington 1922 Left to right: Lt.
