A NEW CHIEF

Completing a 38-year career, Charles Reifsnyder retired in January 1991. Effective July 1991, Captain Jerome Boles, a graduate of MSU, became the fourteenth chief of LPD. The department’s four divisions included Uniform, Investigations, Operations Support, and Administrative services, which were subdivided into bureaus. Specialized units within the department were the Canine Team, Community Services, Crime Scene Investigations, Criminal Intelligence, Dive Team, Internal Affairs, Tri-County Metro Squad, Motorcycle Traffic Units, and S.T.A.R.T. The police organization differs from business organizations. Business operates for profit, while police organize for public service.
