LPD UNDERWATER RECOVERY DIVE TEAM

In the 1960s, Corporal Keith Getts and Detective Ray Warner had taken up the hobby of scuba diving. When they heard that a safe from a burglary had been dumped in the Grand River they donned their diving gear and retrieved the safe from the river as evidence of the crime. In 1965, after many hours of training from MSP Sgt. William Carter, Officers Getts, Warner, Gaukel and Cruz became certified members of the Underwater Recovery Team that continues to be an important part of LPD.
