CHIEF O’TOOLE RETIRES – GLEASON NAMED CHIEF

Holding to his true Irish heritage, when Thomas O’Toole retired in 1976, the fleet of Lansing Police Department vehicles included patrol cars that were white on top and green on the bottom. Assistant Chief Richard Gleason, 51, was appointed the twelfth chief of LPD. Gleason, who held a Master’s Degree in Police Administration, moved through the ranks, but particularly enjoyed his service in the Uniform Patrol Division.
