CHIEF STRAGIER RETIRES – HUSBY NAMED 10TH CHIEF “A policeman’s policeman; an honest progressive cop,” is how fellow officers described Chief Charles Stragier at his retirement dinner in February 1967. Hundreds gathered at the Hotel Olds to honor Stragier and a letter from FBI Director Hoover cited his many achievements. While choosing his replacement, the Board departed from their normal selection procedure, and based their selection of Lt. Derold Husby on the results of a written exam, oral interviews, and past service records. Husby, 41, served as a Marine in the South Pacific and joined LPD in 1947. Chief Husby implemented a two-year reorganization plan for LPD. Chief Derold Husby 1947-1972
