NEW TRAFFIC ORDINANCE

In 1916, an amended traffic ordinance was passed to aid in the traffic congestion on Lansing’s streets. It included: no person under 16 could operate a motor vehicle; no one could drive while under the influence of liquor; after sunset, all vehicles must have one red light in the rear and two white lighted lamps on the front of the vehicle; engines could not be left running when stopped beside a horse or team of horses, and all vehicles must stop upon the signal of a police officer.
