POLICE OFFICER QUALIFICATIONS

The recruitment of qualified applicants remains an important process for the Lansing Police Department. Minimum qualifications in 1991 were: must be 21 years of age; must be a citizen of the U.S.A.; must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license, must meet physical and vision requirements; must possess a minimum of 60 credit hours from an accredited college. After meeting these minimum requirements an applicant must pass an Education and Experience Questionnaire and a Reading/Writing exam. Qualified applicants after passing these steps are then required to pass an oral interview, a psychological exam, and a thorough background investigation.
