SPECIAL TACTICS AND RESCUE TEAM  --  S.T.A.R.T.

The Crime Control Act of 1973 partially funded a Defensive Tactical Unit of well-trained and mobile LPD officers. The officers received special training in the concept of hand signals, assault techniques, and weapon firings while garbed in protective riot gear. In 1976, the unit developed into S.T.A.R.T. and continues to be called to crisis situations.
