HOLY TORNADO

Answering unusual calls is part of a cop’s job. Such as when storms occur in Lansing and they are sent to verify reports of funnel clouds. Officer Paul Klein and Charlie Finn were sent on such a call in 1968. As they approached the north side of Lansing, Finn yelled at Klein to stop the car and look up. A rolling type funnel cloud containing bushes, limbs and other debris, roared above them and sounded like a freight train. The officers backed out of the path of the funnel cloud just in time to see the roof of the Turner Street Lumber Company fly off into the air, depositing debris into the street. The officers called the radio dispatcher and said, “The funnel cloud has definitely been confirmed.”
