A VETERAN OFFICER RETIRES

When he retired in March 1987, completing thirty-nine years of service, Deputy Chief Stanley R. Burnett had observed many changes in LPD and the City of Lansing. In 1960 as a detective he developed a 10-1 file of latent fingerprints and in 1974 his leadership skills were apparent as the lieutenant in command of uniform patrol officers at the scene of a labor strike. Promoted to Captain in 1978, Burnett became Deputy Chief in 1979. Burnett viewed some of the best years of his career as those when he walked a beat and met people on the street.
