WE REMEMBER

 

When a police officer dies in the line of duty it is a tragedy for the entire community, but it is forever a memory of fellow police officers and their families.

 

OFFICER ALEXANDER LANG –Patrolman Lang, 51, died instantly when struck by a car, while on duty September 2, 1932.  He became a sworn officer on October 8, 1920.

 

OFFICER GOTTLIEB SOHN – Patrolman Sohn, 61, died of an apparent heart attack on May 23, 1943, during an altercation with a subject he was attempting to place under arrest. He became a sworn officer on May 16, 1919.

 

OFFICER MAC J. DONNELLY, JR. – During a bank robbery on June 16, 1977, Officer Donnelly, 35, heroically sacrificed his life in a successful attempt to save the live of four civilian hostages. He became a sworn officer on May 6, 1968.

 

OFFICER DEAN WHITEHEAD – Officer Whitehead, 30, died in the line of duty on May 9, 1985, during an accidental crash of Air 80, the Lansing Police Department’s helicopter. He became a sworn officer on November 28, 1977.

 

LANSING PARKS POLICE OFFICER JULIE ENGLEHARDT – While on a routine complaint call on February 12, 1988, Officer Englehardt was fatally shot in the line of duty. She became a sworn officer in July 1974.
